SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR CATHOLIC EDUCATION
During Catholic Education Week, May 1-6, 2022, we ask that you demonstrate your support of Catholic education in our province. Each day, Catholic educators help young people embrace the joy of being the children of God and they show students how to share God’s love with the world. Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Toronto nurture a unique partnership, bringing together educators, families and parishes to create vibrant communities of faith.
The 2022 theme for Catholic Education Week, “Rebuild, Restore, Renew Together”, captures the hope that can be present for all of us during these uncertain times of Covid and in our mental health struggles resulting from the pandemic. The theme is also meant to help us reflect on the bright future that is possible for Indigenous reconciliation.
We are blessed to enjoy publicly funded Catholic education in our province, thanks to the sacrifice of those who have come before us. We must nurture this gift and seize opportunities to partner with families, parishes and educators to nurture another generation of Catholics. But the continued success of Catholic education won’t be possible without your support. We ask that you:
1) Share your gifts and talents with our publicly-funded Catholic schools as a volunteer. There are many opportunities to get involved, whether it is serving on a parent council, a school-based committee or helping at any number of events as a volunteer. To learn more, contact your local Catholic school or the board office.
2) Ensure that your property taxes indicate you are a separate school supporter, even if you do not have children in the system. You can check to see that you are listed as a separate school supporter on your municipal tax assessment roll by visiting the voter lookup website. Not only can you check the accuracy of your record, but you can correct your information online. This record demonstrates to the government that you support publicly-funded Catholic education.
On Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at 10 AM, His Eminence Thomas Cardinal Collins, will celebrate Mass for Catholic education. All are welcome to join us in-person at the Cathedral or via livestream to pray for the close to 300,000 students attending Catholic schools in our archdiocese, as well as all those who faithfully guide them each day.
